5 Bathroom Renovation Mistakes You Should Avoid

There is plenty of planning to be made for your bathroom renovation.  If it’s your first time redesigning, you can easily get consumed with the amount of freedom for the designs.  However, you should be wary with how you refurbish your bathroom.  We listed the most common bathroom renovation mistakes that homeowners do.  Hopefully, this will help you avoid some errors and make your remodelling as perfect as possible.

  1. Not creating a solid financial plan

You need to be detailed with your monetary commitment to your bathroom renovation.  It’s not enough that you just plan the expenses; you must also be detailed as much as possible.  Being detailed allows you to come up with actual estimates.  This will also allow you to have an easier time adjusting the budget if the need arises.  Be careful not to overspend or create a budget plan that you can barely afford, as there might be adjustments that will force you to spend more to make the renovation better.

One of the most expensive things in bathroom remodelling is transferring plumbing locations.  If there isn’t anything seriously wrong with the fixtures (toilet, bathtub, etc.); then don’t transfer them.  You can use the money in beautifying your bathroom instead of using it for relocating the plumbing.

  1. Forgetting about ventilation

Ventilation is very important in the bathroom as it improves or adds air circulation.  Mould and mildew patches can be prevented if there is proper ventilation in the bathroom.  Furthermore, ventilation can help get rid of nasty odours that would otherwise stay.  Unfortunately, some homeowners often forget this important aspect since they’re too busy with the designs.  You shouldn’t forget to have a proper ventilation system when remodelling your bathroom.  Ask the contractor to add an exhaust fan if you don’t already have one and also ask them for advice in improving the ventilation.

  1. Neglecting proper drainage

Ideally, the bathroom floor should be sloped and goes toward the drain.  This design is actually standard in bathrooms since it efficiently drains water.  Having a flat surface will only cause the water to stagnate and the last thing you want in your bathroom is stagnated water, as still water can become the source of moulds.

  1. Poor lighting

Lighting is just as important as the fixtures so you shouldn’t ignore it.  Take advantage of natural light as much as possible.  For artificial lighting, opt with energy-saving yet illuminating bulbs.  Large lighting like chandeliers should be reserved for large and classy bathrooms.  Modern bathrooms make use of minimalistic lighting with conservative and small bulbs.

  1. Not recognising the size limit of the bathroom

Placing too much items and congesting the bathroom is another common mistake some homeowners do.  If your bathroom is already small then try organising items or tools that you frequently use. Other bathroom and hygiene products that are rarely used should be stored in cabinets or hidden.  This will help save counter space and make your bathroom less cluttered.
