5 Effective Ways to Prevent Moulds in Your Bathroom

Moulds are natural fungus that grows in a moist environment. Although moulds are natural you really don’t want them hanging in your household — especially in the bathroom. You see, this fungi doesn’t damage the wall paintings or make a room unsightly, it can actually harm your respiratory system if you’re breathing moulds for a long time. Those who have respiratory allergies have more trouble in coping with mould spores. In the many areas of the house, it’s the bathroom that’s the most prone to moulds. It’s not much of a surprise since bathrooms are wet most of the time. Fortunately, you can do something to prevent your bathroom from becoming fully invaded by moulds — just follow these tips.

  1. Ventilation is key!

Moulds can grow fast in the bathroom if moisture is trapped and has no other means to get out. To solve this problem, we highly recommend you to install an exhaust fan. This fan should actually be a staple in bathrooms since it takes out moisture that’s staying in a particular area. Aside from installing an exhaust fan, you must also leave the windows and doors open to keep the air flowing. Dehumidifiers are also a great option for keeping moisture out of the bathroom. There are different types and sizes of dehumidifiers so be sure to purchase one that is suitable for the size of the room.

  1. Use mould-resistant materials for your bathroom

Having a bathroom renovation or currently building one? If so, you should really consider planning on how to prevent moulds. Preparing your bathroom from a fungus growth is a great way to avert dealing with mould problems later on. There are actually drywalls and paints that are highly resistant to moulds so be sure to check those out. The contractor who will be doing the renovation may be able to advise you on the best mould-resistant materials, so be sure to ask them.

  1. Dry or wipe standing water immediately

Don’t forget to check on the floors since this is the spot where water can stagnate and cause fungus growth. Mop up the stagnant water that you can find to make it easier for the floors to dry. If you have towels or mats on the floor you shouldn’t forget to dry and clean these fabrics since they can grow moulds if left for a long time.

  1. Spray vinegar on the tiles

Vinegar isn’t just some condiment you add to your food it can also be used to fight off mould growth thanks to its anti-fungal properties. Pour vinegar on a spray container and just spray the solution on the tiles, ceilings, or walls. The vinegar spray may linger so keep an air freshener just in case.

  1. Use mould cleaners

If you already spot some moulds growing then you need to kill it off immediately. Try to avoid using bleach and other strong chemical cleaners as much as possible. You can find eco-friendly mould-cleaning solutions that are also effective and can be safely used without affecting your health.
